Standing in the Balkans, along the Adriatic sea, Montenegro is one of the many gorgeous countries that you could visit in this area. With a population of around 650 000, Montenegro is a country which gains most of its income from its great tourism focusing on especially the youth. The access to the sea has given them a great advantage, which the country has used it almost at its fullest. There are also historical monuments and landmarks located all around the territory, but the main purpose to visit this country is for a summer vacation in its marvelous coast. Let's take a close look to the top 5 places that you must visit in Montenegro.

5.Ulcinj

A beautiful city with a lot to offer, Ulcinj is located on the southern coast of Montenegro. One of the oldest settlements in the Adriatic coast, Ulcinj has the majority of its population with Albanians.

Achieving the award from New York Times in 2010 as one of the top places to go, Ulcinj saw a huge increase in the number of tourists from all around the world. Worth visiting in the summer time, the city is well known for its gorgeous sea Velika Plaža, meaning big beach which is a 12 km beach and it is the longest beach in the Montenegro coast. This beach may become very crowded in the summer and if you are looking for something more private I would suggest Ada Bojana which is a small island in Ulcinj where the Bojana river flows. Overall Ulcinj is a great city to visit and gives the opportunity for the young people to socialize and for families and couples to relax in its private areas.

4.Tivat

Coming in at number 4 is a town situated along the beautiful Bay of Kotor. Tivat is a great town which has already gained huge popularity among tourists, which visit the town almost every year.

A town which is constantly being developed from businessmen inside the country and from foreigners, which plan to create this town into one of the most outstanding in the Balkans. Already having the astonishing marina of Porto Montenegro, where all the luxury yachts stand, plans are that another huge area will turn into a luxury resort, so Tivat is rising quite quick. Visit the magnificent sandy beach of Plavi Horizonti and just enjoy the deep blue sea that it offers while admiring the beautiful nature, and I will suggest for you that if you plan a visit there, to go at July or August when the season reaches its full potential.

3.Podgorica

Moving somewhat away from all the summer vibes and going in a more historical city, Podgorica is another place that is worth visiting if you plan a trip to Montenegro. The capital of Montenegro has done a great job keeping its most important historical landmarks untouched and safe.

The centuries-old Clock Tower is one of the spots worth visiting which is located in the old town and it was built centuries ago by the Turks. Also, going along the Zeta Skadar valley, you can notice the marvelous monasteries and beaches if you enter the Lake Skadar National Park. Overall, Podgorica is quite unique as a city compared to what you will most likely see when you visit Montenegro and that is why it deserves number 3 in the list.

2.Kotor

If you want a beautiful mixture of history and relaxation in Montenegro, then the number one answer that should come up is Kotor. A city with great history as well as a magnificent beach has all laid out in the table for you to see.

For the passionate history lovers, the St.Tryphon's Cathedral is by far the greatest building in Kotor. The Romanesque architecture is clearly visible to all people who visit it and the marvelous pink stoned pillars is Kotor's most valuable monument and without a doubt its best one. On the other hand the beautiful coast has its own assets to offer, with a tremendous and gorgeous beach and a terrific nature. Kotor is definitely the city that is a "must" to visit no matter what.

1.Budva

Without a doubt the most visited city in Montenegro, Budva is the most gorgeous of them all. A shocking amount of tourists visit Budva every single year and the investments made there are incredible. Although trying to retain the Old Town of the city, Budva has been able to have numerous resorts all along the coast.

A city visited mostly by Russian and Ukrainian tourists, the glamorous environment that the resorts offer top a lot of the developed countries around the world. Mostly attended by young people, Budva has two of the greatest nightclubs in Montenegro, Top Hill and Trocadero, which especially during the summer are at their max in capacity, but still have a great atmosphere upon them. An all around great city to visit and the Jaz beach located in Budva, is without a doubt one of the most calm and perfect beaches you will visit. It is definitely a city worth visiting even if you do not plan on visiting the others.
