One of the "rising to fame" islands of the world has got to be Madeira with more and more tourists visiting this great island. One of the main influences of this marvelous rise in popularity of the island being Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the greatest football player of all time, Madeira has managed to have huge infrastructure being built in it and locals see development day by day showing signs of shock to how this island has managed to change in such a short time. Due to its great development, different activities show up and now Madeira is a island worth visiting for many of its activities. Here we are going to take a look at the top 5 things to do in this gorgeous island.
5.Drive to Câmara de Lobos
One of the main suggestions given to tourists after they arrive in Madeira is to rent a car and visit the island all around. One of the most picturesque places to go is the village of Câmara de Lobos, located just about 8 km from the capital, Funchal.

Here one of the first things that you will notice is the colorful fishing boats and just outside the village the tallest cliff in Europe, Cabo Girão. With a height of 580 meters, Cabo Girão offers one of the greatest spots to see in Madeira, while enjoying the fresh breeze coming from the Atlantic Ocean.
4.Dive in Madeira's Aquarium
A heart-pounding activity greatly enjoyed by people visiting Madeira is diving into Madeira Aquarium. Thrown into a 500 000 liter water tank, surrounded by sharks and fish, is pretty much the most adrenaline you can receive in an aquarium.

This amazing experience will attract you to visit the island again, due to the fact that the experience offered in this aquarium is just mind blowing. As always, for the weak-hearts, Madeira Aquarium took care by having a glass wall for them to watch their friends or relatives wandering around the tank.
3.Hike to Pico Ruivo
For the hiking lovers, Pico Ruivo is one spot that will stay in your mind once you have seen it. With a height of 1862 meters, Pico Ruivo is the highest point in Madeira and the third highest in Portugal.

The walking route to the top is around 2.8 km, but the significance of this route is that the landscape offered throughout your walk is magnificent. Your trip to the top will take some time, but at the end of the day you will have great photos and incredible memories of this walking route and Pico Ruivo.
2.Go for a Walk in Levada
If hiking is time consuming and tiring in your eyes, then my other suggestion would be talking a walk in Levada.

An incredible route where you can witness waterfalls and gorgeous nature all around. Once you are a walking around you will notice how beautiful is the combination of the green trees accompanied by the deep blue waterfalls, the landscape is marvelous. At the end of your route, you will notice a marvelous lagoon formed by these waterfalls, hence its name Levada, coming from all these waterfalls.
1.Visit Funchal
Visiting the capital is without a doubt the first thing you should do at the moment that you arrive in Funchal airport. With a population of 100 000 people, Funchal is the biggest city in Madeira. Kept in a mixture of modern and ancient architecture, Funchal is the top touristic spot in the island. A significance of the city is definitely the street art located in Rua de Santa Maria, but there are also other landmarks worth mentioning.

Visit the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Monte (Church of Our Lady of the Mount) which is built in 1565 and later contructed in 1741, having some of Madeira's greatest architecture and if you are looking for something more special and traditional from the Church you take a 2 km 'toboggan ride' to Funchal, which in simple words means that two or more people will push you while you are sitting on a sledge offering a completely different experience. At the end, just enjoying the amazing wine in that spectacular nature and climate is more than enough to ask in this beautiful capital.
